Textual analysis contents pages

This contents page is from the magazine Q. The main focus of the pages is on the artist Adele who's image is placed on the right side of the page. It is a close up of her head. Background colour used is grey which blends in with the rest of the page and makes Adele the focus. The caption of the image 'Two months in the life of Britain's brightest new talent' goes with the image that is portrayed through the photo, that Adele is young and fresh. This also gives a hint at what the interview is about without giving to much away so the reader will want to read on to find out. She has subtle make up.

The page uses consistency by using the same colour, black, white, grey and red which follow on from the colours used on the front page. These colours contrast with each other. Each section heading such as 'Features' has a contrasting background colour such as red and white. This makes it stand out against the white background and means that the reader will be able to find what they are looking for quickly. The page numbers are also in red which stands out against the light background. Underneath each title a small caption is given.

I like how this contents page is simple with lots of information included but it is not cramped. What I would like to include in my own magazine is the way which the main image is the focus of the page and the catchs the readers attention.

This is a contents page of an issue of 'Kerrang'. The layout of the page is split into two half's, the top half is the picture of the band 'the young guns'. As the image dominates the page it is clear that this is the article which the magazine want the readers to read. It is a long shot of all the band members who are casually dressed and have casual posers. This gives the impression that they are laid back and not series which is the trait of their target audience. As they are placed on the top half of the page it encourages the readers to look up to them and gives them status. The bottom half of the page includes all of the information which the reader needs. The contents of the magazine is divided into different sections which makes it easy for the reader to find what they are looking for.

The colour yellow is used as the heading of the different sections and the main title of Contents. The yellow cannotes happiness and youth which contrasts with the background colour of the headings black. Black is assosiated with negativness but is also stereotypically assosiated with rock music, the genre of Kerrang. These two colours used together suggest that ....
The editor has wrote a small paragraph informing the reader of what is included within the issue of Kerrang. There are two other images included which relate to the storys inside. Placed ontop of the image of Young Guns is the images of two double page spreads which are included inside. This may catch the readers attention and want to look at them pages to find out more. Large chunky writing is used througout which attracts the reader and also...

This text has inspired me to include a range of different sections within the contents page, so that it is easier for the reader to quickly find what they are looking for. I also like the use of contrasting colours which have very different meanings.

This contents page is from an issue of 'NME'. It is clear to the reader that this is the contents as in large bold capital at the top of the page it says 'This week'. The contents of the magazine is broken down into five different sections. This makes it easy for the reader to find what the are looking for. There is a band index down the left side of the page. This states all of the bands who are included within the magazine and on what page. This means that the reader can find out which bands are included and where to find them.

The same colours are used of red, black and white which are the colours of the title 'NME'. This makes the page instantly identifiable to the audience. The background colour is white which makes it In the centre of the page is the image of Tim Harrington dressed as the pink panther. This shows that the target audience are willing to have fun and me individual. There is also a paragraph from the editor which starts with the comment 'Don't adjust your mag' which would grab the readers attention and make them want to read.

When planning my own production I am going to try and include the features of keeping a consistant colour scheme which is the same as the title of the magazine.
